A plan can be worth it if the visits and coverage match what your system needs, but the answer depends on the contract’s terms, so compare in writing. Climate Pros Tucson doesn’t sell plans. We match you with licensed local pros, and each company sets its own plan terms.

Why would a plan matter in Tucson?

Tucson’s cooling season is long. The airport averages about 158 days a year at or above 90F and about 68 at or above 100F, and annual cooling degree days run about 3,424. A system that works that hard gets dust, heat stress and long runtime. A heat pump also heats in winter, so see heat pump maintenance in Tucson for the two-season picture.

What is the difference between a plan and a warranty?

A warranty comes with the equipment and covers specific parts for a set period. A plan is a service contract you buy separately, and it may cover tune-ups, discounts or repairs. The FTC says to compare any overlap, the total price, deductibles, exclusions, who administers claims and who does the repair. Read the written warranty and keep it with the receipt. Get oral promises in writing.

What should a plan spell out?

Ask these questions before you sign:

  1. How many visits a year, and what is checked on each?
  2. Are parts, labor or both included, and what is excluded?
  3. Is there a deductible or a per-visit fee?
  4. Does the plan change how quickly the company schedules you? Get that in writing.
  5. Does it cover your equipment type, such as a rooftop package unit or a ductless system?
  6. How do you cancel, and what happens to prepayments?

Can a TEP rebate stand in for a plan?

Partly. TEP’s Efficient Home Program has listed an AC tune-up rebate through participating contractors. As listed by TEP in October 2026, it was up to $160 total. That pays for a visit, not for ongoing coverage. Confirm with TEP at 866-473-8761 before you book, since programs change.

When is a plan not worth it?

When the plan duplicates warranty coverage you already have, when the exclusions cover the most likely failures, or when you’d rather book one-off visits. A newer system under a manufacturer warranty may not need a plan yet. An older system may benefit from regular checks, but a plan can’t make an aging unit last. Ask for a repair against replacement comparison when the equipment is old.

What about doing it yourself?

You can change filters and clear debris. Leave electrical, refrigerant and coil work to a pro. See how to clean AC coils in Tucson and HVAC maintenance, AC tune-up and the Tucson HVAC hub. Check any contractor’s license at roc.az.gov.
